1985 - Gallarus Oratory was built between the 7th and 8th century and is the best preserved early Christian church in Ireland.
According to the Discover Ireland website, It represents the apogee of dry-stone corbelling, using techniques first developed by Neolithic tomb makers. The stones were laid at a slight angle, lower on the outside then the inside to allow water to run off.
Times have moved on since I last visited the oratory sat as it did alone in the landscape. There is now a Visitors' Centre, shop car and coach parks.
