Portrait and interview - 1992
David was born in Redruth in Cornwall in 1950 and is able to trace his family back to Cornish tin and copper miners and a few deep-sea fishermen.
He became aware of astrology as a boy and has maintained a long and fruitful association with what he considers to be a sublime yet practical art. David now lives and practises in Totnes, where, in common with many friends and colleagues, he acts as far as his powers and understanding will allow, as a medium through which the much-anticipated New Age can manifest.
David is interested in the astrology of places and says of this town: -
‘Totnes, the name itself ‘Tot-Nes’ may contain a clue as to the astrological ‘rulership’ of the locality. Thoth was an Egyptian Mercury, scribe, guardian of learning, letters, keeper of the calendar and I wonder if it is his name which is found here as ‘Thot-Nes’.
The association with Mercury is discovered by another means too in Totnes. The Parish Church of St Mary gives the clue – her feast day being the 8th September, a date co-incident with the middle of the sign of Virgo, one of the signs of Mercury. Virgo displays the most industrious, practical side of Mercury – a haven for artisans, craftspeople and merchants on a ‘human’ scale. To encounter the quiet courtyards and closes; the cool dark passageways and experience the helpful courtesy of Totnes natives; to notice the strong feminine presence; so many intelligent and dedicated women active in the community and you will see the evidence of a Virgo/Mercury association in the Totnes area.
So, Totnes may well be a ‘Virgo’ town, though one needs to be open to fresh information and evidence concerning this fascinating subject. Our planet is increasingly coming within the Aquarian field of influence and this in its turn is stimulating much that is experimental, unorthodox and vital for the evolution of humanity – a rapid transition into a new era in which Totnes seems destined to play a vital part.
Update: Today, David is listed online as being an astrologist, educator and radio broadcaster.
