Portrait and interview - 1993
Imogen was born in a small market town in Wiltshire but has since lived a fairly nomadic life, having lived in Scotland, Lancashire and Hampshire, as well as Devon, having closely missed moving to Papa New Guinea when she was seven.
She started learning the cello when she was ten and had a variety of teachers, most notably Michael Evans at Dartington College of Arts where she studied music on the degree course. She says she gained her honours degree by the ‘skin of her teeth!’
Despite having had a classical upbringing, Imogen is now more interested in the ‘Indie’ music scene and feels that youth culture is not as recognised as it should be. When she has completed a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) at Newton Park College in Bath next year, Imogen wants to embark on a journalism course with an aim to writing for the weekly music press in London, or by making her fame and fortune in a band ...
Imogen feels that she is still hampered by possessions but would like to travel, as long as there is a good enough electricity supply to work her CD player!
Update: "Imogen Burman-Mitchell is currently the Events Manager for the Department of Music at Goldsmiths, University of London and College Bedel. She organises all aspects of performance within the department and at external venues such as the Southbank Centre and The Albany Theatre, working closely with students and visiting guest artists and lecturers. She is also a sometime cellist." (Sourced from Linkedin)
